Virtual Community Engagement Meeting, October 12th at 6:30 P.M.

The Harris County Flood Control District will hold a Virtual Community Engagement Meeting for the South Rice and Chimney Rock Bridges and Meyergrove Stormwater Detention Basin construction projects.

This meeting aims to inform residents about the status of the upcoming construction projects in Brays Bayou and share project information. The bridges and basin projects focus on increasing the channel and stormwater storage capacity along the bayou to reduce the risk of flooding in the area.

The Meyergrove project will be funded with bonds approved by Harris County voters on August 25, 2018. Community engagement is an essential component of the Bond Program, and we invite your participation as the program is implemented.

The virtual Community Engagement Meeting will be held on:

South Rice Ave Bridge:

The South Rice Ave bridge will begin construction in Winter 2020/2021 and is anticipated to be completed in Winter 2021/2022. The bridge project will cost approximately $11,000,000.

Chimney Rock Rd Bridge:

The Chimney Rock Rd bridge will begin construction in Winter 2020/2021 and is anticipated to be completed in Winter 2021/2022. The bridge project will cost approximately $11,000,000.

What is being done to the South Rice and Chimney Rock Rd Bridges?

The current bridges will be demolished and replaced with higher, longer, and wider bridges. This will increase the channel’s capacity, allowing for more flood waters to flow throughout Brays Bayou. The plan is for segments of the bridges to remain open to commuter and pedestrian traffic during the construction period, with temporary lane closures to the North and Southbound lanes as the bridges are being reconstructed.  Construction will begin winter 2020/2021 and is scheduled to last approximately one year.
